Learn to Foil Programme

Objectives:

  • Provide learn-to-wingfoil courses at Worser Bay

  • Provide a safe, well-run and accessible learning pathway for people wanting to start wingfoiling

  • Provide a safe and high-quality beginner wingfoiling experience.

  • Students completing the course will be safe self sufficient

Lesson Options

  • Learn‑to‑Foil Course: 5 × 1‑hour sessions for $625 (standard course or customisable options available)

  • 1‑hour lessons on a range of topics: $175 per session

When Sessions Run

  • Weekend mornings from 9.00 am

  • Weekday evenings from 4:30 pm

  • Scheduled directly with the instructor

  • Group sizes vary by session type

Lesson Plans

All equipment is supplied but you should supply your own wetsuit, helmet, vest or booties if you have them. Upon the purchase of a plan you will be entered into a chat group and lessons will be offered on a first come first serve basis.

Intro Session - 1 hour. Land based.

Whakawhanaungatanga, health and safety, wing theory, sailing theory, wind wing flying, board balance, gear setup

Group size max 10. Wind requirements - N/A. Worser Bay Boating Club.

Tow Foil - 1 hour. Water based

Water taxi, first flights, pumping

Group size max two. Wind requirements - No wind, max wind 15 knots. Worser Bay.

WingSkate - 1 hour. Land based.

Wing handling, riding both ways, gybs, tacks

Group size max two. Wind requirements - SE. Fran Wilde Walk on the Hnry Stadium concourse

Water Basics Lesson - 1 hour. Water based

Self rescue, water taxi, riding upwind, standing, first flights

Group size max two. Wind requirements - N or S. 10 knots min, 30 knots max

Assisted Wing Lesson - 1 hour. Water based.

Riding both ways, riding upwind.

Group size max two. Wind requirements - N or S. 10 knots min, 30 knots max.

Intermediate Wing Lesson - 1 hour. Water based.

Riding smaller foils and boards, wing and foil pumping, gybs, tacks

Group size max two. Wind requirements - N or S. 15 knots min, 30 knots max.

Experience shows that a student with their own gear will have the fastest learning journey with the ability to consolidate their learnings between lessons. It is recommended that a student taking the Assisted Wing Lesson II has done some practice on their own beforehand.

Winter season May - August: Fewer water lessons are offered during the cold season and they will only be offered on the warmest days.
